Have you ever thought about a 'hole in stone'? An empty space? A passage? A shelter? Nothingness?

In fact, beyond its literal and technical meaning, a hole can be the symbol and the manifestation of an infinite horizon. In its paradoxical invisibility, it reveals unimagined dimensions. “Reflection: The hole in stone” aims to be the artistic argument that the hole is much more than a simple physical characteristic; it opens the way for deep exploration of matter and of our perception. Whether it is a physical challenge between the sculptor and the material, an exploration of form, or philosophical contemplation, the hole in stone reveals itself as a path to broader ideas. Technical, aesthetic, or symbolic, it allows us to play with shadow and light, fragility, and solidity, questioning what it is and what we make of it.

Far from being a negative act, carving into stone is about revealing what it conceals. By offering us a new perspective for contemplation, it unveils not only its inner beauty but also the complexity of its marks of life. As a sum of emptiness and fullness, it offers the possibility of a unique dialogue between us, sculptors and spectators, and stone. Considering the hole as a particular value opens us to a new consideration that unfolds not on the stone itself, but in and through it. “Reflection: The hole in stone” brings together seventeen artists and just as many approaches to thinking about and shaping this void.
